Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to obtain images from inside the body and avoids the need for the use of x-rays. It allows real-time, dynamic, assessment that can determine whether structures in the body are functioning normally. Ultrasound additionally allows safe, accurate and rapid performance of therapeutic injections and biopsies.
